How I Got into Tech (as a Madrasah Graduate)
Reflections on my journey from Madrasah to tech, and my new goal to build meaningful tech that lasts.
While my journey in tech didn’t begin at Madrasah Irsyad, it was there that the seeds to pursue it with purpose were planted. Irsyad gave me a unique exposure to both academic and ukhrawi fields, and more importantly, teachers who constantly reminded us that the true value of knowledge lies in how it benefits others—not in mere grades.
That’s where I first set the intention: to build expertise in a non-ukhrawi field so I could eventually utilise it to contribute meaningfully to the community.
After my O-levels, I began looking at course options with one key question in mind: What courses could help me pursue that goal?
At the time, mobile apps were just emerging, and the idea of building useful apps felt promising. I also found the idea of eventually running my own business appealing—not because I had a full plan, but because it meant I could decide what to build and focus on things that mattered to me.
That led me to choose Business IT in polytechnic. It turned out to be a decision that I’m forever grateful for. It gave me a strong foundation in both tech and strategy.
As cliché as it may sound, I can still remember the goosebumps I got when my first “Hello World” app ran. It was a eureka moment when I realized that tech skills could be a superpower—enabling me to create things that could potentially benefit people all around the world, with just a computer and an internet connection. And with the right strategy and business model, I saw the possibility of working on this full-time in the future—building tech-for-good solutions sustainably.
Since then, I’ve been driven to build. Whenever I experienced a pain point and had the capacity to do something about it, I’d spin up a side project. While many of these gained good traction at the start, only a few continued to thrive. I’ve learned that building a tech product is just one part of the puzzle. Real impact takes groundwork, continued effort, and long-term commitment.
Why I’m Starting This Blog Now
After years of learning, building, and experimenting, I feel ready to move beyond one-off side projects. I’m at a point where I want to focus on building scalable, sustainable tech solutions for the community—solutions that last. I hope I can elevate the experience of interacting with tech for our community.
This blog is my way of sharing that journey—not just the wins, but also the thought process, lessons, and questions along the way. Your support, feedback, and du’as will mean the world as I strive to build tech that truly serves and lasts.
